Volunteer Opportunities |
Thanks for your interest in The Institute for Sustainable Peace! As Executive Director Randy Butler likes to say, we are a “lean, mean, peace-making machine.” As such, we need your help! We have identified the following opportunities, but are open to your suggestions as well.
PeaceNotes Volunteer
The Institute for Sustainable Peace publishes (online) a regular newsletter entitled “PeaceNotes.” We are looking for a volunteer editor to collect and occasionally write “articles” for the newsletter, and to ensure regular publication. Familiarity with computer graphics helpful but not required.
Time Commitment: 4 hours a week, largely from home, ongoing time commitment; could be a shared job.
Website Assistance
We are developing a new website and could use volunteer assistance compiling information to be published on the site. Once the site is up and running (April 2010), we will be seeking volunteer support for updating the website and communicating via social media.
Time Commitment: flexible
Database and file management The Institute manages constituent information and shares files via various online databases. Volunteers are needed to update and maintain these databases.
Time Commitment: flexible, in ISP office
Café dialogue coordinator or host
In 2008 and 2009, The Institute conducted monthly Café Dialogues at the Breakfast Klub. The dialogue sessions, open to the public, are a great way for people to “experience” some of the work of The Institute. We are seeking volunteers to organize and conduct more Café Dialogues on behalf of the Institute. Training will be provided.
Time Commitment: 10 hours per month, ongoing
PeaceJam volunteer
The Institute for Sustainable Peace is currently evaluating the possibility of bringing the local PeaceJam affiliate into our organization. PeaceJam works with local youth to train and inspire them to serve their communities, drawing on the experiences of Nobel Laureates. The major PeaceJam event each year is a weekend conference in which local high school students spend time with a Nobel Laureate. The Institute would welcome volunteer assistance in sponsoring or organizing local PeaceJam chapters.
Time Commitment: flexible
Volunteer coordinator
As a lean, mean, peace-making machine, we need assistance in coordinating our volunteers, including soliciting volunteers, scheduling training and shifts (as needed), and coordinating volunteer appreciation events.
Time Commitment – 2-3 hours per week, sometimes in ISP offices
